Arthritis Facts and Information

Arthritis Facts

Arthritis is an umbrella term for a family of diseases that involve inflammation (swelling, tenderness, and redness) of the joints of the human body. There are more than 100 kinds of arthritis with many different possible causes, and many levels of arthritis suffering, from mild discomfort to disabling pain.

About 37 million Americans – one out of every seven people – are living with arthritis of some kind. Yet we still do not have a good preventative or cure for this very common disease, relying instead on symptomatic treatment to relieve the pain and repair the damage it causes.
